Head-Mounted Display@Car - The Original

Together with OntoLab, Ontoscope, and iRaiment we have developed our technology Head-Mounted Display@Car™ (HMD@Car™), which is an In-Vehicle Infotainment and Communication™ (IVIC™) system that brings the Mixed Reality (MR), inclusive the Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) into vehicles.

Technologies
The IVIC system HMD@Car consists of:

  • bord computer,
  • Head-Mounted Display (HMD) comprising
  • Eyetap 2.0 (HMD 2.0 with a 2D or 3D camera),
  • Mixed Reality Head-Mounted Display (MR HMD),
  • wirebased or wireless connection between the HMD and the bord computer, and
  • Space@Car that offers an additional head-tracking system with a related sensor,
  • Active Sensors, and
  • Active Actuators of the Active Interior.

Using an MR headset in a vehicle is even more difficult than it al- ready is in the case of a stationary Mixed Reality Environment (MRE), because the vehicle is a mobile, moving and shaking MRE, which is adding momenta on the wearer and naturally on the sensors of an HMD, which again is leading to negative effects when displaying informations and controlling applications.
Moreover, the moving and shaking of the in-vehicle MRE make it difficult for Augmented Reality (AR) applications to superimpose the live direct or indirect view of the physical, real-world environment, specifically the external environment and the interior of the vehicle, with the computer generated informations like images and sounds.

    Advantage
The advantage of our IVIC system HMD@Car is that it uses the sensors of the:

  • HMD,
  • vehicle's interior,
  • vehicle's control system, and also
  • vehicle's exterior

    in intelligent integrated ways by

  • filtering out and compensating the negative influencies,
  • fusing the data of the sensors,
  • determining the position of an HMD inside the vehicle to increase the precision,
  • handling the control of the HMD@Car system to increase the overall quality, and
  • delivering the foundations for fascinating and progressive Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR) multimedia applications.

Head-Mounted Display with Air Conditioning System (HMD ACS)
Our technology of the Head-Mounted Display with Air Conditioning System (HMD ACS) solves a problem that was not attacked before in this field, that is heat and moisture accumulation under a closed mask.
These general problems are known from skiing, snowboarding, and other kinds of sport when the goggle fog inside due to different temperatures outside and inside of the mask and when the wearer is moving with increased physical activity. The same happens sooner or later while wearing an HMD.
In the case of the sports goggles one solution is to add a little me- chanical, electric fan on top of the goggle's frame. Once realized, we thought it would be clever to adapt this solution for Mixed Reality (MR) HMDs as well.

Head-Mounted Display with Brain Comuter Interface (HMD BCI)
The Head-Mounted Display with Brain Comuter Interface (HMD BCI) even integrates two fascinating technologies in one device. Developed in the first place as a solution to increase the precision of the display to reduce VR sickness of a wearer, it also offers an add- itional user interface controlled by the mind and in this way a lot of possibilities.

Mixed Reality Head-Mounted Display (MR HMD)
The OntoLab together with Ontoscope and iRaiment developed one of the most amazing devices in the field of MR that is a light-weight goggle with our propritary electronic Plastic/Polymer glass and MobileKinetic technology. It can also feature a bi-, tri-, or tetra-directional glass/camera technology. Not to forget the fact, that the closed variants of our MR HMDs have also a Head-Mounted Display with Air Conditioning System (HMD ACS).

    Applications
The system works inside and outside of a vehicle and makes possible all kinds of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR) multimedia applications in this way, like they are shown on the webpage of our Space@Car technology for example.

Through the connection to the bord computer the IVIC system can also use the data delivered by the sensors of a vehicle, like our Active Sensors, specifically our Active Cameras, and control the actuators of a vehicle, like our Active Actuators.
